Automated Waste Collection Services
The City of Port Coquitlam provides fully automated waste collection services to over 18,000 residential and business properties throughout the City. The City provides specially designed carts to all properties that receive the service.
The cart lids are colour-coded based on the material collected. Click to learn more:
- Green: Yard trimmings, food scraps and food-soiled papers collection
- Blue: Recycling collection
- Grey: Garbage collection
The City of Port Coquitlam is divided into five collection zones. Your garbage, recycling and green cart collection days are determined based on these zones.
Food Scraps and Food-soiled Papers Collection
Port Coquitlam residents can add all food scraps (including meat and bones), as well as food-soiled papers (such as pizza boxes) to their green carts for year-round pickup by the City.
- yard and garden trimmings that should be in your green cart
- gypsum wallboard
- materials recyclable in your blue-lidded cart
- materials recyclable in provincial stewardship programs including: beverage containers, used oil, oil filters, empty oil containers, paint, pesticides, flammable liquids, gasoline, medications, tires, computers, TVs and printers

If you have difficulty moving the carts to your collection point, you may apply for set-out/set-back service. If your application is approved, City crews will move your carts to the collection point and return them at the end of the collection day. Download the set-out/set-back service form. For more information, contact the Operations Division at 604.927.5496 or 604.927.5488.
