Dogs and their responsible owners are welcome visitors in Port Coquitlam's parks and trails. Here are some facts every dog owner should know:
Protecting Your Pet and
the City
- Keep
your dog on a leash in all public areas, including parks and trails.
- Do
not let your dog approach too closely to others.
- Do
not allow your dog to jump up on anyone.
- Do
not allow your dog to dig holes in City parks or boulevards.
Poop and Scoop
- Pick
up all dog waste left by your pet and remove it to proper disposal.
- There
is no excuse for not picking up after your pet.
- Under
Metro Vancouver regulations, dog waste is banned from the landfill and cannot
be placed in garbage receptacles, including those in City parks.
- Dog
waste should be taken home and flushed down the toilet
Safety
Personal
safety around dogs is a growing issue for many park visitors. Only you know if your dog is dangerous or
not and many people have very real fears about dogs.
The Environment
Even
when on a leash, a dog can disturb wildlife and sensitive natural areas like
streams, ponds, and nesting areas.
Please keep dogs out of stream and garden areas and keep dogs on trails
in natural areas.
