Project Mitigation

A key focus for the City's Project Team was to identify and mitigate the effects of the project on the community. Community feedback wassolicited and incorporated into the preliminary design, and a mitigation plan was developed to address noise and visual effects.

Earlier input from the community resulted in revisions to the preliminary design aimed to:
  • Diminish the impact of traffic noise on homes
  • Reduce vehicle conflicts
  • Reduce the visual impact of the project on adjacent homes
  • Improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Reduce the impact of street lighting on adjacent homes
  • Reduce operational delays
  • Reduce project costs
The City also addressed other key issues, such as neighbourhood access and circulation on the north side of the overpass, and the potential for traffic short-cutting through neighbourhoods on the south side.
