Open as of December 13, 2012, the Fremont Connector is an important north-south arterial road serving the Dominion Triangle development area and northeast Port Coquitlam.
Located between Lougheed Highway / Mary Hill Bypass and Dominion Avenue / Burns Road, the Fremont Connector is constructed to full arterial standards, with four travel lanes, sidewalks and marked bicycle lanes.
The road was constructed by the developer of the eastern portion of the Dominion Triangle, Con-West Contracting Ltd., and will be turned over to the City upon its completion.
The Fremont Connector ties into the existing two-lane Burns Road at its north end and will provide an alternative for some drivers as follows:
- Some traffic will use the Fremont Connector to access development on Sherling Avenue and Hawkins Street, and to access the Mary Hill Bypass.
- Some traffic will use the Fremont Connector and Sherling Avenue to access the Pitt River Bridge.
- Some traffic will use Prairie Avenue and Burns Road to access the Fremont Connector.
Future Planning
Extensive study and public consultation will take place prior to any further extension of the Fremont Connector to the north.
