Port Coquitlam residents will be encouraged to get out of their cars this fall and winter by a new initiative that promotes walking, cycling and transit.
The City of Port Coquitlam has partnered with TravelSmart to bring the program to the community from fall 2012 to spring 2013.
Residents can learn more and pledge to take one less single-occupant car trip a week by visiting the TravelSmart website.
Take the pledge to be entered in monthly draws for an iPad and other prizes!
Launched more than a year ago in Metro Vancouver, TravelSmart uses website resources, prominent advertising, pledges and prizes to promote sustainable transportation choices. During its pilot program, it was successful in reducing automobile use while increasing carpooling, transit use and cycling.
The aim is to help to slow down the need for ever-growing road infrastructure and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions in the region.
Specific TravelSmart programs are being developed for Port Coquitlam businesses, schools, seniors and new immigrants and will be rolled out over the fall and winter.
The TravelSmart website includes community-focused information on transportation options, trip-planning tools, a calendar of events, maps, a transportation tracker and more. For more information, contact:
