Project Scope

Now completed, the Coast Meridian Overpass connects Coast Meridian Road and Broadway Street and is part of TransLink's Regional Major Road Network.

The overpass includes:
  • two general-purpose travel lanes in each direction
  • marked on-street bicycle lanes in each direction
  • sidewalks on one side of the bridge and both sides of connecting roadways
Associated roadworks:
  • the new Lougheed Meridian Connector and its new intersections at Coast Meridian Road and Lougheed Highway
  • marked bicycle lanes on Coast Meridian Road north of the overpass
  • improved intersections at:
    • Coast Meridian Road and Riverwood Gate
    • Lougheed Highway and Dominion Avenue
    • Kingsway Avenue and Broadway Street
    • Kingsway Avenue and McLean Avenue
Other:
  • sound mitigation including acoustic fences along Coast Meridian Road and Lougheed Meridian Connector
  • landscaping on public and private properties.

Benefits of the Coast Meridian Overpass to Port Coquitlam and the region include:

  • Significantly increasing the north/south road capacity in Port Coquitlam;
  • Providing a high quality commuter cycling corridor;
  • Improving emergency response times and reliability;
  • Significantly reducing congestion on major roads, such as Lougheed Highway;
  • Improving accessibility to and from downtown Port Coquitlam;
  • Improving transit services to the community;
  • Improving access to Hyde Creek Recreation Centre and other facilities by residents of south Port Coquitlam;
  • Improving access to Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex, Wilson Centre and other facilities by residents of north Port Coquitlam, and
  • Reducing air pollution caused by idling vehicles.
