Music in the Park

Bring your lawn chair, a picnic and the enitre family to Lions Park this summer! Music in the Park is a series of free concerts held in Lions Park, located on Lions Way off Shaughnessy Street, every Sunday afternoon from 2 pm to 4 pm throughout the months of July and August. Free parking, shade trees, picnic tables and a large playgroud, make Lions Park a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon. You can also enjoy the original artwork of local artists provided by the
Art Focus Artists' Association .

July 5 - Fera (country)
Identical twins, Courtney and Stephanie perform under their last name Fera.  These accomplished singer/songwriters, have shared the stage with artists such as Randy Bachman, Bill Henderson, Jessie Farrell and Ian Tyson to name a few.  With one full length album under their belt, several BCCMA nominations, two singles on Canadian Country Radio and a publishing deal with OLE Publishing ('08 CCMA Publisher of the Year) for their song "Fairytales", Fera has come a long way in 10 years from their local roots.

July 19 - Santa Lucia (latin funk)
Imagine listening to the early days of Latin Rock, with Santana.  Now, mix some funk and a drop of rock into the soothing sounds.  These guys are rejunvenating the Latin rock scene, by throwing in some West Coast funk and Cuban grooves.  This band is breaking down the borders and determined to revive the popularity of the Latin music scene.

July 26 - Copper Sky (celtic)
Copper Sky has been pleasing audiences all around the Lower Mainland with their lively style of music ever since 2002.  This Port Coquitlam favourite will appear as a trio and perform their ballads and jigs with the guitar, whistle, bodhran, fiddle and mandolin.

Aug 2 - Jazz Con Brio (jazz)
Performing primarily as a trio of sax, trumpet and guitar, this ensemble has been entertaining audiences "with spirit" (as their name implies) since 2007.  Sharing a common love of the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Paul Desmond and Wes Montgommer, their repertoire is primarily chosen from jazz standards, with a sprinkling of more contemporary works.

Aug 9 - Samworth, Tung & Dhillon Trio (world)

This collaborative trio of Ron Samworth, Lan Tung and Neelamjit Dhillon fuse traditional Anglo/Irish, Inda adn Chinese music with contemporary styles and unique instrumentation (erhu, guitar, effects, tabla, alto saxophone and voice) providing a wealth of textural possibilities to these three versatile composer/performers.

Aug 16 - Crossroads Hospice Showcase (mix of genres)
A music in the park tradition, the Crossroads Showcase will host a number of talented singers, songwriters and performers from the popular Crossroads Coffeehouse.

Aug 23 - Hot Club of Mars (swing)
The Hot Club of Mars brings classic gypsy jazz tunes to life with a style, rhythm and energy that gets your feet yearning for a dance floor.  Enjoy hot swing favourites from years gone by, with sultry ballads by chanteuese Deanna Knight, original instrumentals and sizzling tangos that will make you smile from head to toe.

Aug 30 - The Wind Whistles (folk pop)
The Wind Whistles is a quirky folk-pop duo made up of Tom Prilesky and Liza Moser.  While usually spending six months of the year touring across Canada and overseas, the couple still manage to keep rooted in the community by organizing the popular Beanstalk Folk Festival and running the Electric Cafe program for youth bands.  Sometimes performing alone, most of the time you'll find a rotating cast of supporting members helping to add more colour to the live performance.  This year, they are releasing their second album titled "Animals are People too".
