CMO Opening Ceremonies

Join the celebration March 6 as we open the CMO!
After two years of construction, the Coast Meridian Overpass (CMO) will open to all traffic on Sunday, March 7.

Join the community to celebrate the opening of the CMO with a party at mid-span:
Saturday, March 6 - 10 am to noon

  • No vehicle traffic will be permitted on the bridge during the celebration.
  • Due to limited parking and concerns for the environment, event-goers are encouraged to walk, bike, use public transit or carpool. Click here or scroll down for options.
Schedule of Events:
10 am:
Join Port Coquitlam City Council, other VIPs and the community in a parade to mid-span, for a symbolic linking of north and south Port Coquitlam. Assembly at the north and south approaches of the CMO will begin at 9:30 am.

10:10 am:
  • Opening ceremony and greetings from project partners
  • Dedication plaque unveiling
  • Ribbon-cutting
10:30-11:30 am:
  • Singing of O Canada – Teaghan Iverson
  • North vs. South street hockey game: Kilmer Elementary vs. James Park Elementary
  • Pick-up street hockey games for adults and kids:
    • There is no pre-registration for the street hockey games, spaces will be allocated on a first-come basis.
    • No in-line skates
    • Please bring your own sticks
    • See official rules
  • Tim Hortons Community Cruiser
  • Live music by Port Coquitlam’s Another Round
  • Displays including:
    • CMO project info
    • Port Coquitlam Parks and Recreation
    • New and vintage buses and fire trucks
    • ICBC Crash Car and Safety Bear
    • Port Coquitlam Heritage & Cultural Society – vintage cars and historical pictures
    • RCMP/Community Policing
    • TransLink
    • Tri-City Speedwatch
11:30 am:
  • Presentation of trophy, medals and ribbons to street hockey participants
  • Draws for prizes provided by Papa John's Pizza and World Gym
  • Pizza for street hockey participants provided by San Remo Pizza
  • Closing remarks
Displays will remain on the bridge deck until noon.

Parking and Getting There
Greener options for getting there:
  • BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation) is providing a free secure bike valet service at the south approach, located off Kingway Avenue at Broadway Street.
  • Bike racks will be available at the north approach.

    • South side destination: Kingsway Ave @ Broadway St, Port Coquitlam

Parking:
  • A free shuttle service will run regularly to and from the West Coast Express parking lot at 2125 Kingsway Avenue.
  • Parking on the north side of the CMO site will be available:
  • Parking on the south side of the CMO site will be available:
    • On the south approach to the CMO bridge deck (accessible from Kingsway Avenue)
    • Along roadways where parking is permitted
  • Parking for disabled persons will be available on the south approache to the CMO bridge deck. Vehicles must display a valid Disabled Persons’ Parking Permit.
Facilities and Services:
  • Portable toilets, including wheelchair-accessible toilets, will be available on site at either end of the bridge deck.
  • The approaches and the opening ceremonies site are wheelchair accessible; please note that the festivities take place at the mid-point of the 580-metre-long span.
