Presentations and Accolades

Photo-June2009-push launch of 1st spanThe two-year construction of the Coast Meridian Overpass project attracted considerable attention in both local government and industry. Opened on March 7, 2010, the CMO was the largest infrastructure project TransLink contributed to in 2010, and the City of Port Coquitlam's largest-ever transportation infrastructure project.

The CMO's engineering work included:
  • the push-launch in June 2009 of a 125-metre-long section of the span – the longest ever in North America.
  • the use of lightweight expanded polystyrene (EPS) within precast concrete panels for the north and south approaches.
  • a complex cable-stayed design that allowed for a two-metre reduction in the depth of the beams.
