What is the Parks, Recreation and Culture Plan?
The City’s current Parks and Recreation Department Master Plan was last updated in 1990. Since then, the City has completed a significant portion of the recommendations in the Master Plan. In addition, the needs of the community have evolved since then and thus may not coincide with some of the recommendations stated in the 1990 Plan.
Therefore, the City has embarked on a process, via the Plan, to provide the City of Port Coquitlam with a decision-making framework for the provision of parks, recreation and cultural facilities and services over the next ten years. The new Plan is expected to guide City Council in the allocation of human and fiscal resources to most effectively meet the community’s needs with respect to the development of facilities (parks, open green spaces, athletic fields, recreation and culture facilities, arenas, sport courts, cemetery and the Terry Fox Library, etc.) and the delivery of parks, recreation and culture services for the community.
