The Spirit Committee is Port Coquitlam’s Legacy from the 2010 Olympics. Initially established in 2004 as part of the 2010 Legacies Now program, this Committee continues to coordinate events that promote community spirit and pride. The Committee is comprised of 27+ volunteers representing organizations, business and residents who have come together to share resources, partner or sponsor an event and explore ways to build community networks 

Representatives on this Committee include volunteers from the Business Improvement Association, Community Sport Organizations, Tri-City Chamber, Wilson Centre, Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society, Friends of Leigh Square Society, Local Businesses and the community at large. New Members are always welcomed to join in the fun. 

The Spirit Committee has several projects and initiatives underway for 2012. Priority is given to projects that support the following: 

• Community Connections that build and develop community spirit, networks and partnerships to support, coordinate and promote events for the entire community
• Volunteer enthusiasm that embrace opportunities to engage volunteers, provide leadership opportunities and build community enthusiasm
• Fun and celebrating community and family 
• Access for all that welcomes participation of all residents, regardless of age, gender, culture or ability
• Events or projects that leave a legacy for future generations 

At this time, the Spirit Committee is actively planning for Port Coquitlam’s 100th Birthday celebrations in 2013. In addition to this significant milestone, the Committee coordinates the Council Community Connections program and Spirit Week events.
