Yard and plant trimmings, food scraps, food-soiled papers and more are accepted in City of Port Coquitlam green carts.
From the kitchen and home:
All food scraps (raw or cooked), such as:
- Meats and fish
- Bones and seafood shells
- Eggshells
- Pasta, bread, rice
- Dairy products
- Sauces, dressings, grease etc.
- Vegetables and fruit peels, seeds and pits
- Desserts
- Coffee grounds/filters and tea bags
- Pizza boxes
- Paper plates/cups (paper only, no stryofoam)
- Paper towels/napkins
- Soiled paper egg cartons
- Food-soiled newspaper
- Paper bags and kraft paper liner bags used for collecting scraps
From the yard:
- Grass clippings
- Leaves
- Prunings
- Plant trimmings and cut flowers
- Twigs, branches and limbs up to 3" in diameter and 40" long - Note: this includes Christmas trees without tinsel or chemical sprays. Watch a video about how to fit your tree into your green cart.
Items NOT accepted in green carts include:
- Metal, foil, plastics, glass or any recyclables
- Plastic or plastic-type bags (including compostable or biodegradable plastic-type bags)
- Diapers
- Pet waste/kitty litter
- Stumps, soil, rocks or sod
- Lumber, fencing or construction materials
- Regular garbage
