Start The Holiday Season December 3

Celebrate the holiday season on Saturday, Dec. 3 with a day of fun-filled activities at the City of Port Coquitlam’s annual Christmas in Leigh Square event.

The free festivities begin at 1 p.m. in Leigh Square and wrap up after the lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Event-goers can take part in holiday craft making and storytelling, music and entertainment, face painting, artist and artisan vendors, street hockey and pictures with Santa, as well as the kick-off to the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society (PoCo Heritage) Christmas Tree Festival.

Street Hockey

1-4:30 pm in Leigh Square

Come one, come all and join in some truly Canadian Street Hockey! We will be playing from 1-4:30pm right in Leigh Square. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Whether you challenge your classmate to a game, knock on your neighbor’s door, call up Gretzky or come out to meet some new team mates - it's sure to be a blast! Please bring your own sticks. Everything else will be provided and ready to play. Ensure you wear proper attire for a high energy game, tie up those laces and see you then!

Entertainment by The Beauty Shop Dolls 

Fresh faced and stylishly retro-chique, Beauty Shop Dolls are a vocal harmony group with a charming, colourful take on the classic stylings of The Andrew Sisters, or The Chordettes. From swinging classics, to fun retro arrangements of today's best music, these dolls know how to woo any crowd into an old fashioned love affair!

Phat Santa Swing

Christmas Tunes for the Holidays. One of the best things about the holiday season is the Christmas music. From traditional Christmas Carols to popular Christmas songs, Phat Santa Swing plays Christmas music you know and love. Get everyone into the Holiday Spirit with live seasonal music that swings!

Below is a full schedule of holiday events taking place in Port Coquitlam. Donations for the SHARE food bank will be accepted at all these activities and events. 

Friday Nov. 25 to Sunday Nov. 27 – PoCo Winter Artisan Market: 5-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Leigh Square’s annual Winter Artisans Market returns to offer affordable, quality art and fine crafts and edibles. Bring out the whole family to enjoy arts and treats. Friday Dec. 2 – Youth Late Night Skate (Ugly holiday sweater theme): 10:15-11:15 p.m. at the PoCo Rec Complex. Dress in your ugly holiday sweater, lace up your skates and enjoy time with friends in a supervised drop-in program. Admission is $2 including skating and skate/helmet rentals, or free with YAC card. 

Wednesday Dec. 7 – Holiday Turkey Dinner: 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Wilson Centre. Enjoy a delicious meal with all the fixings! Register at www.experienceit.ca (barcode 16656) or 604-927-PLAY (7529). Admission is by donation (minimum $2).    

Friday Dec. 9 – Holiday Turkey Dinner: 6-8 p.m. at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre. Register at www.experienceit.ca (16657) or 604-927-PLAY (7529). Admission is by donation (minimum $2).        

Saturday Dec. 10 – Breakfast with Santa: 9-11:30 a.m. at Wilson Centre. This magical Christmas experience includes breakfast followed by a visit with Santa and entertainment for the kids. Register at: www.experienceit.ca (14255) or 604-927-PLAY. Admission is $10 (free for children under age three).

Friday Dec. 16 – Christmas Movie and Skate Night: 6:45-8:15 p.m. at PoCo Rec Complex. Lace up your skates, show off your ice skating moves with friends and family, and check out the free animated movie A Christmas Carol (2009) in the lobby. Regular admission.

Saturday Dec. 17 – CP Holiday Train, Free Skate and Dinner: Start with a free skate and lasagna dinner 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the PoCo Rec. Complex. At 6:15 p.m., be at the West Coast Express Station, 2125 Kingsway Ave., as the Canadian Pacific Railway’s Holiday Train rolls into Port Coquitlam at the end of its cross-country journey, with performances by Dallas Smith and the Odds.

Throughout December – Holiday-themed activities: Port Coquitlam is offering a number of holiday-themed art camps, workshops and activities requiring pre-registration. Call 604-927-PLAY for information, or go to www.experienceit.ca and locate the activity by name.
