How Do I Get Involved?

Becoming a volunteer with Parks & Recreation is a simple process that can be broken down into four easy steps:

1. Create a Volunteer Profile
2. Arrange an Intake Interview
3. Complete and Return a CRC
4. Attend an Orientation

Simple, right? Here’s a little more information on each step:

1. Create a Volunteer Profile.
Look through your area of interest and review the opportunity descriptions and which ones we are actively recruiting for.  Select the ‘Apply Now’ button in that area – you will be redirected to the online application form that will assist you in creating your volunteer profile.

Please remember to only create one account.  If you already have a volunteer profile at myvolunteerpage.com search Port Coquitlam, select your area of interest and follow the prompts.

2. Arrange an Intake Interview
or call Volunteer Services to arrange a brief Intake interview. This gives us an opportunity to get to know you and find an area and role that meets your needs and interests. Upon successful completion of an intake interview we’ll provide you with a Criminal Record Search (CRC) form to be completed at the local RCMP detachment.

3. Complete and Return a CRC
Bring the CRC form we provided to the local RCMP detachment
to have it completed. This process is free for volunteers and usually takes less than thirty minutes. From there, please return it to Human Resources at Port Coquitlam City Hall. Your CRC form will be kept confidential and details of the results will not be shared with Volunteer Services staff.

4. Attend an Orientation
Visit myvolunteerpage.com to view when the next orientation will be taking place in your area of interest (orientations are normally scheduled for the beginning of each season).

At your Volunteer Orientation, you will be introduced to the Volunteer Supervisor in that area and meet other potential volunteers, be informed of some key aspects of volunteering, tour the facility and provided an opportunity to ask any lingering questions you may have. Once all the above steps are completed including the return of a successful CRC, you will receive a welcome package containing a USB drive (full of volunteer information and resources), a volunteer lanyard and a blank ID badge. We will also update your Volunteer Profile so that you can begin to sign up for available opportunities and view other available Volunteer Orientations.

Please note that all volunteers under the age of 19 will be asked to complete a parental/guardian consent form.

If all of your questions here have not been answered please email or contact the Volunteer Services Program Coordinator.
