Community & Intergovernmental Committee

The Community and Intergovernmental Committee seeked to advance the City’s corporate objectives through the oversight of the City’s relationship with other governmental agencies, including, but not limited to:

  • the federal and provincial governments
  • related senior governmental
  • organizations
  • the regional district
  • RCMP
  • First Nations
  • and neighbouring municipalities.

Finance and Budget Committee

The Finance and Budget (FAB) Committee was a senior standing committee of Council and focused on the overall policy direction to promote fiscal responsibility and sound financial management to advance the City’s corporate objectives.

Smart Growth Committee

The Smart Growth Committee was a Council committee that worked to ensure the City’s management of growth and development integrated the community’s economic, social and environmental interests. The committee was responsible for matters that included:

  • Development applications
  • Development regulations
  • Zoning
  • Development Permit
  • Subdivision
  • Parking
  • Building
  • Business
  • Regional Growth Strategy
  • Liquor licence applications
  • Community health
  • Access/mobility
  • Homelessness
  • Built heritage
  • Multiculturalism
  • Social planning
  • Other social issues

This committee also acts as the liaison with the Downtown Business Improvement Association and Chamber of Commerce.

Community Safety Committee

The Community Safety Committee was a Council committee focused on community and citizen safety. The committee was responsible for matters related to:

  • animal control
  • bear awareness
  • bylaw enforcement
  • crime prevention
  • emergency preparedness
  • fire services
  • RCMP operations
  • vector (pest) control

Healthy Community Committee

The Healthy Community Committee is a Council committee that works to enhance Port Coquitlam’s quality of life by nurturing the health and well being of citizens, their neighbourhoods and environments. The committee is responsible for matters related to:

  • Achievement recognition
  • Civic festivals and cultural events
  • Recreation facility maintenance and life cycle improvements
  • Leisure activities
  • Cemetery operations
  • Open space/sport field planning and maintenance
  • Heritage programs
  • Corporate energy conservation
  • Liaison with a wide scope of community groups

Sustainability & Environment Committee

The Sustainability & Environment Committee provided overall policy direction on community issues related to environmental stewardship and land use and sustainability to enhance the quality of life for all citizens at present and into the future.

Transportation Solutions & Public Works Committee

The Transportation Solutions & Public Works Committee was a Council committee focused on matters related to transportation and public works. The committee was responsible for matters related to:

  • Flood control
  • Local improvement programs
  • Road improvements
  • Traffic safety
  • Transportation
  • Transit
  • Sewer, water and drainage services
  • Waste collection
  • Watercourse stewardship
