Sun Valley Park Upgrades

Upgrades at the Sun Valley Park spray park are complete, bringing new amenities, improved safety and reduced environmental impacts.

The park reopens Saturday afternoon, August 5 after renovations that began in April. The 29-year-old park, located at 3700 Hamilton Street off Lincoln Avenue in northeast Port Coquitlam.

Improvements included:

  • An increase of the spray zone area by 30 per cent,
  • A colourful non-slip surface throughout,
  • Five new spray features for toddler and family fun, with names like Aqua Dome, Jet Stream and Tot Twister, and
  • New bench seating using the site’s natural grades.

The park’s five existing spray toys were integrated into the new design. The existing washroom and wading pool also remain.

Another aspect of the park upgrade was the installation of a water recirculation system, which will be put into operation in 2018.

The recirculation system will include on-demand water activated by users, and a filtering and UV treatment system to allow the spray park water to be safely re-used.

The upgrades cost approximately $300,000 and were jointly funded by the City and the Canada 150 Infrastructure Grant Program.

Planning for the project began last year and included a public information session in November 2016 to share information and solicit feedback about the proposed design.
