Council Standing Committees

Two-year volunteer positions are available on the following committees. The new terms will begin in 2018. Check back in November 2017 for application information.

 Board of Variance

This appeal body decides upon variances to the City’s Zoning Bylaw. It functions independently from City Council and has its own authority under the Local Government Act. Learn more about the Board of Variance.

Special Event Task Forces

These task forces rely on citizen involvement and support three signature City events: Canada Day, May Day and the Rivers and Trails Festival. Learn more about task forces.

A Police Record Search is required for potential volunteers who are applying for positions that are considered to have, or potentially have, interaction or contact with children, youth and other vulnerable groups. Volunteer placement is made on the basis of the program requirements, the skills and experience of the applicant and, when appropriate, successful reference checks and a police record search. Prior to placement, written parental/guardian consent is required for volunteers under the age of 19.
