Public Works
Among the many services the City provides, Public Works of the Engineering & Public Works Department is responsible for the essential services that we have all come to rely on as part of our daily lives. Otherwise referred to as the City’s infrastructure, these services include:
- ensuring clean and safe water to our City, supplied through underground pipes
- maintaining a separate system of underground pipes to collect sewer or waste water for proper treatment prior to discharging it
- providing and maintaining the City’s roads, sidewalks, street lights, signage and lane markings
- providing other key services including street cleaning and the coordination of the garbage and green waste collection and recycling services
- watermain flushing
Watermain Flushing
The City of Port Coqutilam performs uni-directional watermain cleaning throughout the year in a neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood rotation.
This procedure causes pressure fluctuations, some discolouration and sediment in the water reaching your home or business. These conditions should be of short duration and will not pose a health hazard. If your water appears discoloured, run a cold water tap until the water clears. City staff will try to minimize any inconvenience.
Watch for orange signs, as well as newspaper notices, announcing watermain flushing in your area.
