Port Coquitlam, BC – Poco Arts Association is excited to announce its support for the upcoming Battle of the Artist’s being hosted at the Cat and Fiddle Pub on May 4th, 2023. This event will have a “Space” theme and people are encouraged to dress up in their favourite Star Wars costumes. We will be bringing together artists from across the region to compete in a live painting competition.
The “May the 4th be with you” Battle of the Artist’s is a unique experience that combines the excitement of a live sporting event with the creativity and talent of the art world. Competing artists will have just 20 minutes to create a masterpiece inspired by the theme space. Artist’s will be supplied materials and receive an honorarium, they can also choose if they wish to sell their painting in an end of the night auction.
The audience will have the opportunity to watch the creative process unfold in real time and the chance to purchase an original oil painting! There will be three preliminary rounds, winners from these first rounds will then face off in a fourth and final round to determine who wins the Battle. Audience determines who moves forward by voting for their favourite artworks.
“We are thrilled to be hosting this exciting event with a ‘Space’ theme in honor of ‘May the 4th be with you’ day,” said Poco Arts Association President, Patrick McCarthy. “Battle of the Artist’s is a wonderful opportunity for artists to showcase their skills, and for the community to come together and enjoy a fun and engaging evening of art.”
The event will be hosted at the Cat and Fiddle Pub, a popular local venue that is known for its lively atmosphere and support of the arts community. Doors open at 6:00 pm, and the painting competition will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance online by donation or $5 at the door. Space is limited to 300 people.
Poco Arts Association is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting and supporting the arts in Port Coquitlam and the surrounding areas. The association provides opportunities for local artists to showcase their work, and hosts a variety of events and workshops throughout the year.
