Celebrate The Completion Of Fox Park Playground On May 1
Port Coquitlam, BC – April 24, 2019… Residents are invited to celebrate the opening ofPort Coquitlam’s latest fully accessible playground at Fox Park.
Set for May 1 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., the celebration will include a ribbon cutting, light refreshments and children’s activities using the updated play equipment at Fox Park, located at 3215 Lancaster St. off Davies Avenue. The event is also a thank you to area residents for any inconveniences during construction this spring.
“The Fox Park upgrade will give children in the area more social and play opportunities on a modern and fully accessible playground,” Mayor Brad West said. “It’s one of many projects we’ve included in our capital program to make our community a great place for kids to grow up and for parents to raise a family.”
The project included the replacement of outdated play structures, installation of rubber surfacing to meet safety requirements, and a border around the play space.
The new playground includes slides, swings, elevated structures and spring/seesaw components for children ages two to 12, as well as components suited for children of all abilities, based on the city’s Accessible Play Spaces Policy.
“Many of us cherish memories of heading to the neighbourhood park as a kid for a day of fun and activity,” said Cllr. Glenn Pollock, Council’s designate for parks items. “Making more of our playgrounds accessible makes those kinds of experiences possible for today’s generation and for kids of all abilities.”
The park design was selected based on feedback from a public information session with area residents last summer. Funding for the project was approved as part of the city’s 2018-19 capital budget.
