City of Port Coquitlam Expands Hours at PCCC Leisure Pool

Beginning today, Mon. Aug. 29, the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) Leisure Pool will be extending its hours of operation to be able to offer additional programs.

The leisure pool at 2150 Wilson Ave. is now open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The pool will also be open for lessons Saturday and Sunday morning, 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Despite North America-wide lifeguard shortages, the City has worked throughout the year to ensure staffing is in place for indoor and outdoor pools by actively and diligently recruiting Aquatic Leaders. For the first time since reopening last fall, the PCCC Leisure Pool is now in a position to fully open mirroring the operating hours of the facility and other supporting amenities.

The City’s aquatics staff perform important work every day, teaching Port Coquitlam residents and the general public to swim and keeping swimmers safe at City pools.

The leisure pool has an accessible sloped entry, lazy river, play features, large hot tub, and two swim lanes. Nearby are accessible changerooms, seating and lounge space, a steam room and sauna.

Additional lane swim times have been added, as well as public swimming times and evening aqua fit classes. For more information on programs, and to register, visit portcoquitlam.ca/pools.

Residents can purchase a One City Pass, which covers drop-in swimming, skating, fitness, racquetball/squash and all ages gym sports at all City recreation centres and pools. See portcoquitlam.ca/recpass for pass information.

Financial Assistance and Program Support Available

The City offers a variety of supports and resources to ensure all residents have the opportunity to get involved in recreation programs. Eligible families can receive a 75 per cent discount on activities, including camps, through the Financial Assistance Program.

Families can also apply for an Individual Child Grant through Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Program.

Recreation 1:1 Program Support provides accessible and inclusive opportunities for children or youth in registered activities. Learn more at portcoquitlam.ca/financialassistance.
