City To Observe National Day Of Mourning
Port Coquitlam will observe the National Day of Mourning on Sept. 19 in recognition of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the City of Port Coquitlam, like other government offices across the country, will be observing this day as a national holiday.
The City will mark Sept. 19 as a public holiday for all City employees. City waste services will continue to run on schedule, Recreation facilities (Port Coquitlam Community Centre and Hyde Creek Recreation Centre) will be operating under holiday hours while all civic facilities including the Terry Fox Library will be closed for the National day of Mourning.
Since Sept. 8, in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, City Hall and civic buildings lowered all flags to half-mast. A book of condolence has been set up at City Hall and residents are invited to sign the book from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. City Hall has also been illuminated in blue to pay tribute to Her Majesty for the remainder of the mourning period.
