Community Invited to Port Coquitlam Council Inauguration
The City of Port Coquitlam invites residents and business owners to attend the inauguration of the City Council that will lead the community for the next four years.
The inauguration will take place on Nov. 6, 7 p.m. at Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate) to mark the first meeting of the new Council elected on October 20: Mayor-Elect Brad West and Council-Elect Steve Darling, Laura Dupont, Nancy McCurrach, Darrell Penner, Glenn Pollock and Dean Washington.
The ceremony begins with a procession led by a piper, an RCMP honour guard in red serge and a Fire & Emergency Services honour guard followed by the administering of the Oath of Office to the new Council. The event also includes the inaugural speech by the Mayor and remarks by each Councillor. A reception will follow with light refreshments.
The inauguration is being held at the theatre to encourage participation from the community. Ample seating is available to the public; those who wish to attend the event are asked to be in their seats prior to 7 p.m.
The new Council’s first regular meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on November 13 in Council Chambers at City Hall and can be viewed online at www.portcoquitlam.ca/council.
