Recycle Your Tree And More After The Holidays – Jan. 7-8
Once the holiday season is behind us, Port Coquitlam residents only need to make one stop to recycle their Christmas tree, Christmas lights, small appliances, batteries, lightbulbs, electronics, soft plastics such as plastic bags, and glass containers at the City of Port Coquitlam’s annual Tree Chipping and More event.
The event takes place on January 7 and 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam Fire Hall #1 (1725 Broadway St.) There is a $10 minimum donation to benefit the Port Coquitlam Fire Fighters Charitable Society. Donations can be made online at portcoquitlam.ca/treechip.
City staff and fire fighters will be on site to help unload trees for chipping. Residents are asked to remove all tinsel, lights, decorations, tree stands and plastic bags before taking trees to the tree chipping event as they could pose a safety hazard.
Residents can also have their tree picked up by filling out the form online at portcoquitlam.ca/treechip or call 604.927.5375 to arrange a pick-up service (minimum $20 donation) by Wednesday Jan. 4, 2023. All applications made after this date may not be accommodated. The tree can be left curb-side for pick-up by the fire fighters.
Firefighters donate their time for this event and all wood chips created are used in many City parks, gardens and trails.
Residents are requested not to drop off their trees outside of these days.
Put it in your green cart:
Residents can help keep Christmas trees out of the landfill by using their green cart.
- Remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel and tree stand
- Cut your tree into small pieces that are up to 3” in diameter and 40” long
- Place in your green cart (make sure lid can close)
Chopped-up trees, food scraps and other yard trimmings go to a regional composting facility to be turned into soil amendments for topsoil.
