May Days Flash Fiction Contest Now Open
Calling all Port Coquitlam writers! The City of Port Coquitlam and the Terry Fox Library invite residents to enter the May Days Flash Fiction contest until May 13, 2023.
The annual Flash Fiction contest is a collaboration between the City and the Terry Fox Library. This year, entries must be written as a fairy tale that takes place in Port Coquitlam and contain both a magical element and the number 100. Flash Fiction stories must be short and contain a maximum of 750 words.
The Grand Prize-winning story will be professionally illustrated and featured on the Donald Street Storywalk later this year. First, second and third place winners will receive gift certificates from Western Sky Books, sponsored by the Downtown Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association (PoCo BIA).
Residents of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to try their hand at writing a short story and entering the contest. Last year’s 2022 winning entry, written by Logan Willis and illustrated by Akemi Emma Ito, is currently on display along the Donald Street Pathway. That story ends on a cliff-hanger and residents are encouraged to come up with their own ending. Learn more about the Donald Street Storywalk at portcoquitlam.ca/storywalk.
