May Days Flash Fiction Contest Opens April 15
Calling all Port Coquitlam writers – the City of Port Coquitlam and the Terry Fox Library invite residents to enter the May Days Flash Fiction contest running from April 15 – May 15, 2022.
The Flash Fiction contest is a collaboration between the City and the Terry Fox Library. Each entry must be a mystery story that takes place in Port Coquitlam and contains a secret passage. Flash Fiction stories must be short, containing a maximum of 750 words.
The Grand Prize-winning story will be professionally illustrated and featured on the Donald Storywalk later this year. First, second and third place winners will receive gift certificates from Western Sky Books, sponsored by the Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association (PoCo BIA).
Residents of all backgrounds are encouraged to try their hand at writing a short story. The following programs and activities are designed to inspire and support writers at all levels:
Saturdays, April 16 – May 14 – 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Deep Dive into Short Fiction
This five-session registered program led by professional writer Christina Myers explores the basic elements and building blocks of flash fiction for new and emerging writers. The program includes learning materials, generative exercises to practice new concepts, and techniques to help foster and grow your writing. Pre-registration is required: portcoquitlam.ca/register.

Virtual Visit with Author Christina Myers – FREE
FVRL is excited to present an author visit from Christina Myers, who will be doing a reading and an audience Q&A. Christina Myers is a writer, editor, and former journalist. She teaches creative non-fiction through SFU’s continuing studies creative writing department, and is the co-host of a reading series called Words in the Burbs. Flash Fiction Contest Writing Workshop – FREE
Looking for inspiration and practical ideas to write or polish your Flash Fiction contest entry? Join author Christina Myers for a free writing workshop at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (small multi-purpose room) focused on tips and tricks to help you complete your short story.
