MEDIA STATEMENT: Regarding Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation’s recent findings at Kamloops Residential School site

The City of Port Coquitlam is disheartened to hear of the tragic and devastating news of the remains of 215 children being found at a former residential school in Kamloops. This discovery is a dark reminder of the history of racism and violence against Indigenous people and the ongoing impact and trauma caused by residential schools. We send our deepest sympathies to the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) and surrounding communities. In memory of the lives lost City Hall will go dark. We stand against racism and offer our support to the community ofTteS.
