Port Coquitlam Farmers Market Returns June 2 in New Location
Port Coquitlam, B.C. – May 24, 2022… The Port Coquitlam Farmer’s Market is back for its 15th season on Thursday June 2 in its new location in the Terry Fox Hometown Square on Kelly Avenue at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.
The popular outdoor market will open Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. offering a variety of locally grown and produced vegetables, fruit and baking, along with artisan-made goods straight from the farm and workshop to your shopping bag. The Market runs from June 2- September 29.
This season the market, run for the City by the Fraser North Farmers Market Society, is being relocated to Kelly Avenue due to the upcoming construction in Leigh Square.
“I’m excited to have the farmers market back again in a new location to animate our Terry Fox Hometown Square. This provides residents with healthy and sustainable food options as well as an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of this important public space,” said Mayor Brad West. “The event organizers, volunteers, vendors and city staff have done a tremendous job to ensure we can continue to enjoy the market and support the businesses, which is pivotal in maintaining our local economy.”
Join Mayor Brad West at 4 p.m. on Thurs. June 2 for the Opening Day Celebration with cupcakes and entertainment provided by Caden Knudson.
The Port Coquitlam Farmers Market is a weekly, fun-filled event providing direct contact with local farmers and food producers. Enjoy exciting monthly themes, events and live entertainment for the whole family.
“Farmers’ markets and fresh food markets provide our residents with healthy, local and fresh food, while improving neighbourhood food security and resilience,” said Cllr. Nancy McCurrach, the Council designate for arts, culture and heritage. “We encourage residents to get outside and be physically active, and support the local agriculture sector.”
Underground parking is available for customers at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.
The Port Coquitlam Farmers’ Market will operate every Thursday until Sept. 29, and has more than 30 vendors who sell a wide range of local products, including produce, meats, baked goods and crafts. Many popular vendors are returning this year such as West Coast ice cream, Golden Ears Cheesecrafters, Tinhouse Brewing and more.
Although the farmers market is just a few blocks away from its original location, the City encourages local shoppers to visit the local businesses in the downtown core which has a variety of options for shops.
