Recycle Your Christmas Tree Over the Holidays – Jan. 9-10

Once the holiday season is behind us, Port Coquitlam residents can recycle their Christmas tree, at the City of Port Coquitlam’s annual Tree Chipping on January 9-10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam Fire Hall #1, (1725 Broadway St.).

There is a $5 minimum donation to benefit the Port Coquitlam Fire Fighters Charitable Society.

To meet COVID safety protocols, the event has been adapted to be a drive-through and requires residents to stay in their cars at all times while firefighters unload the tree. Clear signage and directions will be provided.

Residents that would like their tree to be picked up, can fill out the form online at portcoquitlam.ca/treechip to arrange a pick-up service (minimum $10 donation). The tree will have to be left curb-side for pick-up by the fire fighters.

The City will not be collecting other recycling materials (such as Christmas lights, packaging or small appliances). Residents are encouraged to download the PoCo Sort & Report App or go to portcoquitlam.ca/sortitright to find out where to recycle these items at local depots.

Firefighters donate their time for this event and all wood chips created are used in city parks and trails.

Residents are requested not to drop off their trees outside of these days.

Put it in your green cart:

Trees without tinsel or chemical sprays can also be chopped up and placed in City green carts in pieces that are up to 3” in diameter and 40” long. The chopped-up trees and other yard trimmings and food scraps go to a regional composting facility to be turned into soil amendments for topsoil.
