Shine the Spotlight on Your Favourite PoCo Biz by Oct. 25

Nominations are now open for the Port Coquitlam Best Biz Awards, back for the sixth year to shine the spotlight on local businesses.

Anyone can nominate their own or another Port Coquitlam business until Oct. 25 using the online form at portcoquitlam.ca/bizawards. Participants are encouraged to make their nomination stand out by including a short video.

“Businesses are key to the success of our community and this is our chance to say thank you for all you do,” Mayor Greg Moore said. “The awards are also a great free marketing opportunity so I encourage businesses to submit a nomination.”

Port Coquitlam launched the awards in 2013 to recognize the contributions businesses make to the community, celebrate their accomplishments, and encourage Port Coquitlam residents to shop locally for goods and services.

This year, businesses may be nominated in one of four categories:

  • Small Business of the Year – up to 10 employees
  • Big Business of the Year – 11 or more employees
  • Home-based Business Awardhas demonstrated significant growth, sustainability and excellent customer service
  • Entrepreneur of the Year – someone who is launching or has launched a business within the past 3 years (new category this year)

Businesses of any size may be nominated, as long as they operate in Port Coquitlam and have a valid city business licence (except for entrepreneurs with a new concept who may not yet have a business licence). Businesses can nominate themselves.

All nominees will also be entered for a People’s Choice Award, and their business names, websites and videos will be promoted on the city website and in other print and online communications. From Oct. 27 to Nov. 8, the public will be invited to vote for their favourite business.

Selected by a panel of city and business representatives, the awards will be presented at the PoCo Best Biz Awards Celebration on Nov. 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the PoCo Inn & Suites. The free event is open to all Port Coquitlam businesses and employees (maximum of two seats per business) and includes complimentary food, drinks and door prizes.

New this year, the event will showcase up and coming entrepreneurs. Early registration is recommended at portcoquitlam.ca/bizawards as space is limited.

The awards are supported by TELUS, Tri-City News, Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association, Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce and Galactic Entertainment.
