Watch For Your Tax Notice In The Mail

Port Coquitlam 2023 property tax notices are being mailed out by end of this week to property owners which are due July 4.

For 2023, the average residential property with an average assessment increase will see a total municipal increase of $105.50 made up of a $76.13 increase in property tax; $8.81 increase for the solid waste levy; $13.61 increase in the water levy; and a $6.95 increase in the sewer levy. Water and sewer levies were due March 31.

A newsletter accompanying the tax notice explains how the 2023 budget will be spent and includes updates on the latest City news.

Residents are encouraged to save time, avoid the lines at City Hall and pay using the following options:

  • Online or by phone through a financial institution
    • 12-digit number may be required:
      • use the number 224 plus your folio number as your 9-digit account number.
  • Mailing a cheque to City Hall:
    • 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, V3C 2A8.
  • At most banks or financial institutions.
  • Using the secure drop box located at City Hall. Receipts will be mailed or emailed only upon request.

Due to the construction at Veterans Park, the front doors to City Hall and access to the drop box have been closed off and moved to the back entrance. Access and parking are available on McAllister Avenue or Donald Street. The drop box is located on the side of the water feature by the back doors of City Hall.

The annual Home Owner Grant must now be claimed online at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant by the due date to avoid penalty and interest. Instructions for paying taxes and claiming the Home Owner Grant online, can be found at portcoquitlam.ca/taxes, along with more information about payment options. Payment details are also printed on the back of the tax notice.

A five per cent penalty will be applied to outstanding current balances after July 4, 2023 and an additional 5% penalty will be added after Sept 15, 2023. A penalty will be applied if a financial institution rejects payment, or if payment is received after the due date from a financial institution.

Property owners can also sign up for MyPortCoquitlam at portcoquitlam.ca/online to view and manage their city tax and utility bills online.

  • Eligible property owners can also apply to the provincial property tax deferment program at gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment.
