Minnekhada Park Fire Update #3

Minnekhada Park Fire Update #3 Oct 3, 2022 – AM

Thanks to proactive firefighting efforts yesterday by Metro Vancouver and BC Wildfire Service, crews have been successful at slowing the fire’s growth. Though not fully contained, an aerial assessment this morning found minimal overnight growth. Currently, the fire is spotty over an area of approximately 12 hectares. Metro Vancouver is continuing to work closely with surrounding communities as the safety of residents and fire crews is critically important and remains the top priority. Currently, there is no concern for evacuation for residents, no disruptions anticipated for nearby schools, and no structures are at risk. Ground and aerial firefighting operations resumed early this morning and are well-resourced, with five helicopters currently dropping water on the fire. With continued dry weather in the forecast, the firefighting effort is expected to be a multi-day operation.
