Minnekhada Park Fire
Minnekhada Fire Update: Oct 2, 2022
The City and Port Coquitlam Fire continue to monitor and are working closely and continue to receive updates from Metro Vancouver, Coquitlam Fire and BC Wildfire in regards to the fire at Minnekhada Park. We will continue to keep you updated and our community safe. Metro Vancouver crews are working alongside BC Wildfire Services to suppress this wildfire. The location of the fire is on extremely steep and challenging terrain, requiring both ground and air support. These operations are expected to span multiple days. There are helicopters bucketing water, forest firefighters on the ground with aerial tankers planned for later today/tomorrow based on weather and wind conditions. Please avoid the area as the park remains closed. Metro Vancouver Air Quality is monitoring air conditions – Air quality is high today and expected to be the same for tomorrow. We encourage residents to keep their windows closed, use a HEPA filter, or visit public areas such as our recreation centres and library which have air filtration. We also encourage residents to download the City’s Alertable app at portcoquitlam.ca/alertable. The app provides up-to-date emergency alerts in the case of fires, floods, earthquakes, storms and other hazards. Alerts deliver crucial information and safety instructions to keep you safe.
