What’s on

Ornella Maruccio-Belhomme| Art and Soul

Dates:  November 1 – January 7, 2019

Opening Reception: Thursday November 8, 7:00-9:00pm

The Michael Wright Art Gallery presents Ornella Maruccio-Belhomme’s exhibition Art and Soul. Created using a variety of techniques and media including paper, fabric, oil and watercolour paint, ink, and textile material, the works engage their viewers by inspiring amusement, discovery and intrigue.

Maruccio-Belhomme is a Coquitlam based artist. She employs the concept and practice of care and dedication in the process of making work. Spending lengthy durations of times, she plays with forms and materials (paper, fabrics, colours, lines, and stitches) to develop a final composition. In her creative process Maruccio-Belhomme draws inspiration from the depth of her memory and soul, and from the natural and human world around her.

“Art is for me the only real freedom: it allows me to fly freely all over the creative possibilities, and to land as a falcon, wherever I can see an instance, or a chance, or a call for new Inspirations and new artistic visions.

Holiday Art Sale

Dates:  November 8 – December 22, 2018

Opening Reception: Thursday November 8, 7:00-9:00pm

This winter holiday season, the City of Port Coquitlam invites you to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts at the Holiday Art Sale at the Outlet Gallery located at #110-2248 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam. The gallery features beautiful hand-crafted ceramics, bright contemporary paintings and jewelry made by local artists.

The Holiday Art Sale runs Nov 8 – Dec 22, 2018 and includes work by local artists Sarah Ronald, Jennifer Po, Ronald Boersen, Dorothy Doherty and Lover’s Tempo. Items start at $13.

During the holidays, the average Canadian spends about $1,500 on travel, food, drinks and gifts. B.C. Buy Local Week (Dec 3–9, 2018) encourages consumers to shift at least 1% of that spending – just $15 – to a local business, or a local grown or local made product. If all consumers make a 1% shift, it creates 3100 jobs and sends $94 M in wages to B.C. workers.

In exchange for studio space, artists facilitate public workshops and outreach programs for the local community as part of their residency. The duration of the residency is four months for the following three program terms: Jan 1 – April 30, May 1 – Aug 31, Sept 1 – Dec 21, 2019.
