Shaughnessy Pop-Up Park

Bigger, Better Pop-Up Park
Take a break or enjoy your lunch in the bigger, better Shaughnessy Pop-up Park, a downtown oasis.
Construction fencing installed in early May came down to reveal an expanded and improved public gathering space in the 2600-block of Shaughnessy Street, with new surfacing, children’s play features, a corn hole and giant blocks-stacking game, more tables and seating, enhanced public art, seasonal flowers, sun sails for shade, a larger stage and built-in access to food trucks.
The upgraded space will host a food truck and live entertainment every Saturday from 11 am- 2 pm.

Background
The Shaughnessy Pop-up Park was created in 2018 as a temporary public space to fill an empty lot. The demolition of an adjacent building this year (2021) – and the continuing need for outdoor public space during the pandemic – prompted the City to improve the park in time for this summer with the cooperation of the property owners.

The initiative improves the downtown’s walkability and livability, and supports downtown area businesses. Park space is generously provided by Insure-Line with project support from the Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association.
Community groups and organizations interested in booking the space for performances and events are encouraged to apply with a proposal using the below online application form. The activities must add to the public’s enjoyment of the space, and cannot be a marketing, sales or fundraising event
