Little Libraries

Little Libraries are free neighbourhood book exchanges where anyone can take a book or drop off a book to share with others. No rules, no late fees – everyone can take part!
Anyone can build a bookshelf, but Little Libraries aren’t just about books. They’re about connecting with your neighbours and providing a way for people to give to their community. Little Free Libraries promote reading, literacy and access to books for everyone. The design of each Library reflects the unique personality of the people who use and care for it.
Visit the City of Port Coquitlam’s City’s Little Free Library Map to find a Little Library near you!
Stewarding a Little Library
Anyone is welcome to install a Little Library on their own private property. Stewarding a Little Library is a rewarding opportunity to share your love of books with others while connecting with your neighbours and community.
We invite all Little Library owners to connect with with the City to join our Little Library Steward community, where they will be added to our City’s Little Library Map and be invited to be a part of Little Library Steward initiatives. Please email littlelibrary@portcoquitlam.ca to learn more about installing a Little Library on private property, or to register your library with the City.
The City of Port Coquitlam will be considering locations for future Little Libraries on City property in 2023. If you are interested in stewarding a Little Library on City property, such as a public park or green space, please fill out an Expression of Interest Form on the Volunteer page and City staff will follow up with you when this opportunity becomes available again in the future.
Donate Books
The City invites the community to donate books to the City’s Little Libraries that will promote diverse voices and the opportunity for readers to explore different cultures and experiences.
Children’s books are a great way to express and share the value of diversity, equity and inclusion. It also makes topics easy for everyone to understand! Look for books to donate that:
- Celebrate the joy of diverse voices
- Explore a variety of cultures and experiences
- Represent different languages spoken and read in our City (for example, Korean, Farsi, Tagalog, Chinese)
- Explore holidays celebrated by our Port Coquitlam community
Looking for books featuring diverse stories? Check out these Fraser Valley Regional Library Cultural Diversity Booklists:
