We are advancing plans for a new Multi-Use Sport Covered Facility designed to support local community sports, year-round play, and competitive activities.
The province has committed $3 million of financial support alongside City contributions previously allocated in the capital budget. This funding will help bring to life an inviting and versatile space that enhances Port Coquitlam’s athletic infrastructure.
The facility, featuring a covered and seasonal side curtain open design concept, will include lighting and amenities such as change rooms, washrooms, and storage to accommodate activities like lacrosse, ball hockey, basketball, volleyball, baseball/softball, tennis and badminton. The space aims to relieve demand on existing arenas during the winter and transitional seasons, offering increased dry floor time and expanded opportunities for community and competitive play.
Estimated to cost between $10 to $12 million, pending final design, the proposed facility will provide a versatile and inviting space for a range of sports and recreational opportunities.
Key Benefits
- Enhances the quality of sports and physical activities in Port Coquitlam by providing a year-round space for training and games
- Supports the growth of dry floor sports in Port Coquitlam
- Provides world-class facilities that open up hosting opportunities for high-profile events
- Raises the profile of Port Coquitlam across the province
The facility is planned within the current Shaughnessy Bike Park area in the northwest part of the City and the design strategy will be to enhance the natural environment. The City is developing a plan to relocate and revitalize the bike park in a new area. As the project progresses, the City is dedicated to ensuring residents are well-informed and engaged, following the preliminary planning stages.
The project will be funded through a combination of contributions from the province and City capital budget allocations. Detailed design completion is anticipated by the end of 2025, with construction slated for 2026.
