The City’s Urban Forestry Team is responsible for sustained planning, planting, managing and maintaining the health and sustainability of trees within our urban environment. Trees play a crucial role in our community by creating a pleasant atmosphere, improving air quality, providing habitats for wildlife, cooling urban environments during heat events, and increasing property value.
Why Are Trees Important?
Trees are an important part of Port Coquitlam’s infrastructure and bring many benefits to our residents.
Tree Removal & Protection
We regularly monitor the health of trees on public property and track hazard trees that require removal. Whenever possible, the City looks to maintain trees rather than remove them. In cases of declining or dead trees, removal is necessary for public safety. Structural defects, weak branches, and other issues can also cause a tree to come down.
Do not cut down a tree in Port Coquitlam without reviewing if you require a tree cutting permit. This process helps protect our urban forest and maintain the health of our ecosystem.
