Waste Collection

The City of Port Coquitlam provides fully automated waste collection services to more than 18,000 single-family homes, multi-family units and business properties.

We provide carts with colour-coded lids to all properties that receive the service. Green carts (green waste) are collected weekly, and blue carts (recycling) and grey carts (garbage) are collected on alternating weeks — based on the Collection Schedule & Zone Map. Grey bins (glass) are collected monthly.

Securing and Setting Out Carts

Lock garbage and food scraps in either a wildlife-resistant enclosure (e.g. garage or shed) or by using the City’s wildlife-resistant cart lock or another wildlife-resistant lock certified by the BC Conservation Foundation. On collection day:

  • Set out unlocked carts between 5:30-7:30am on collection day. Re-secure your carts by 7pm.
  • Remove locks before placing at carts at the curb.
  • Place carts along the edge of the road, with wheels against the curb (if there is one) with lids opening towards the street.
  • Ensure lids are closed. Overflowing carts may not be picked up.
  • Ensure adequate space around carts: At least 1 m (3 ft) between carts, 1.5m (5 ft) away from parked vehicles, and 3 m (10 ft) above carts from overhanging objects.

All Port Coquitlam properties are required to follow the City’s Solid Waste Bylaw, which includes requirements to secure waste carts and other wildlife attractants.
