There are 17km of gravel lanes in Port Coquitlam. Due to fluctuating weather conditions, regular vehicle traffic, and vegetation growth, lane conditions may deteriorate over time. Lane grading is completed on 100% of Port Coquitlam’s gravel lanes twice per year.
Lane Grading
Lane grading smoothes and levels gravel lane surfaces, removing potholes, ruts, and depressions and improving drainage. Vegetation removal and ditch cleaning in lanes is completed on an annual basis, and requires environmental permits to work within the Fisheries window for the protection of watercourses and aquatic life. Dust control treatment is applied on gravel lanes at least once per year, and on an as-needed basis.

Lane Paving Program
The City receives a large volume of requests for lane paving as most of the lanes in the City are currently unpaved. To address this, a Lane Paving Program was introduced in 2021 to establish a fair and cost effective approach, while staying within budget, and ensuring that taxes remain affordable for residents. Annual funding supports paving and drainage works for approximately 2-3 lanes per year. Lanes meeting any criteria to a greater extent than others, and those meeting multiple criteria will be paved first.
