New Zealand born and growing up in Quesnel BC, Nancy and her husband Ray have lived in Port Coquitlam since 1992. They have a goldendoodle and four children; Katrina, Monica (Andrew Murphy), Jackie, Bill and three grandchildren all living in Port Coquitlam, and have been involved in hockey, lacrosse, softball and highland dancing over the years.

Very much a people person Nancy landed a career in the telecommunications industry spanning 31 years. In 2021, she was recognized with a TELUS Legend Award - the highest recognition a TELUS team member can achieve, resulting from achieving extraordinary contributions to her customers, the business, her teams and her community. Also in 2021, Nancy received the Labour Community Service Award presented by the New Westminster and District Labour Council for recognizing her efforts as a City Councillor in regard to gender equity. She was the driving force behind free menstrual products in the City of Port Coquitlam's restrooms. She went on to submit a resolution backed by her city council that passed at the National Federation of Canadian Municipalities on Period Poverty which resulted in the Federal Government financing 25 million dollars towards a task force on period poverty so that free products are now available to our most vulnerable Canadians.

Nancy was honored to be the recipient of the prestigious 2017 USW International Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service and as a Community Champion, also recognized by the Prime Minister of Canada, The Hon. Justin Trudeau with a certificate of excellence for helping the most vulnerable newcomers to Canada in the Tri-Cities: those with disabilities, widows, and their children. In 2019 Nancy established a scholarship to help refugees and immigrant women with their post-secondary studies that still exists today.

In 2017 she was named Port Coquitlam Volunteer of the Year in the category of Safety and Caring.

Nancy achieved the rank of 2nd black belt in karate, training for 14 years after being stranger attacked. She is a multiple cornea transplant recipient due to a rare vision disorder and advocates for organ and tissue donations. She continues to volunteer in the community, spending time at Hyde Creek at spin and water running classes, biking the trails while wholeheartedly serving the people of Port Coquitlam as a 2nd term City Councillor.
