Volunteers play an important role in delivering high quality recreation programs and community events, and help to create a healthy, vibrant, and caring community. We are proud to offer volunteer opportunities for individuals ages 14+ in our afterschool programs, camps, swimming and skate lessons, seniors’ programs, events and more!
Current Opportunities
We are currently recruiting for the following opportunities:
Spend your Summer helping to create unforgettable memories! Develop your leadership skills while helping children make new friends, learn new skills and try new experiences in one of our fun and exciting Summer Camps. A wide range of camp opportunities are available, with camps taking place at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre, Port Coquitlam Community Centre, the Outlet, and in local parks. Ages and activities vary by camp.
Requirements:
- 15+ years of age
- Able to commit to at least one full week of Summer Camp
- Enjoy working with children
Summer time fun on the ice or the trails! Stay active and develop your leadership skills while helping children to develop their skills in our Little Sprockets, Trail Blazers, Skate & Fun or Skate, Bike, Swim Camps.
Requirements:
- 15+ years of age
- Able to commit to at least one full week of Summer Camp
- For Skate Camps: able to skate forwards, backwards, and stop with good balance and control
- For Bike Camps: able to ride a bicycle with good balance and control
- Enjoy working with children
Volunteers help make community events such as Canada Day possible by assisting in a variety of roles, including assisting with set-up, providing event information, engaging eventgoers in games and activities, and more.
We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in our Canada Day celebrations in a variety of roles, including Event Assistants and Activity Attendants.
Volunteer opportunities are available for those 14+ years of age.
- 14+ years of age
- Fluent in spoken English (fluency in a second language is an asset)
- Comfortable working with the public

Recruitment for volunteers is done seasonally based on programs and event needs, and is aligned with the release of the Port Coquitlam Leisure Guide.
The City of Port Coquitlam’s Adult & Senior Services area offers activities and events for those that are aged 60 years and better, targeting a variety of interests and skill levels. Whether you come with a friend or want to make new ones, our Adult & Senior Services programs are a great place to connect. Find more information about our Adult & Senior Services programs.
Volunteers are essential in the operation of the Wilson Kitchen, which offers healthy and affordable meal and beverage options to seniors and other members of the community visiting the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. Volunteers assist staff in a variety of roles, including serving customers (counter service), baking, preparing sandwiches and hot meals, and washing dishes.
Other volunteer opportunities include assisting with the Wilson Kitchen lots in the Port Coquitlam Community Garden by assisting with watering and garden maintenance. Volunteer opportunities are available for those 18 years of age and up.
The City of Port Coquitlam offers a variety of aquatic programs and opportunities for all members of the community at our indoor and outdoor pool facilities. Find more information about our Aquatics programs.
Aquatics volunteers assist in the delivery of high-quality Swim for Life swim lessons by providing instructional support, demonstrating skills, and helping children to achieve their learning goals.
Volunteer opportunities are available for those 15 years of age or older who have completed their Bronze Cross and Swim Instructor certifications. We do not have opportunities to volunteer in our Aquatics programs without these certifications at this time.
The City of Port Coquitlam’s Arts & Culture area offers arts and cultural programming for participants of all ages, including art exhibitions, workshops, children’s camps, public art initiatives and more. Find more information about our Arts & Culture programs.
Volunteers supporting in our Arts & Culture programs help to provide high quality experiences by facilitating activities, engaging participants and helping the community to connect with public art. Volunteer opportunities are available for those 14+ (and in Grade 9) for after school programs and 15+ for day camp programs and public art activities. Volunteering with Arts & Culture is a great opportunity to make community connections and explore your interest in the Arts.
The Children Services team goal is to create unforgettable experiences for children, parents and families. We offer variety of active programs for children ages 3-10, including preschool programs, after school programs, and day camps. Our programs follow the High Five Principles of Caring Leaders, Friends, Mastery, Play and Participation and the three design guidelines of Developmentally Appropriate, Safe, and Welcoming of Diversity and Uniqueness. Volunteers supporting in Children Services programs act as caring leaders by helping build friendships between children, making children feel they have sense of belonging and being a positive role model. Volunteer opportunities are available for those 14+ (and in Grade 9) for after school programs and 15+ for day camp programs. Volunteering with Children Services is a great opportunity to improve your leadership skills, build community connections and explore career opportunities in childcare, recreation and education.

Volunteers help make special events possible by assisting in a variety of roles, including assisting with set-up, providing event information, engaging eventgoers in games and activities, and more. Volunteer opportunities are available for those 15+ years of age.
PoCo Youth Leadership Group works together to make a positive difference in our community while developing their own skills and confidence. Members meet each week to plan a variety of community events and projects, including youth-focused initiatives such as Pink Shirt Day and Youth Week.

The City of Port Coquitlam’s Arena Sports area offers skate lessons, drop in public skates and hockey programs for participants of all ages, as well as bike lessons and day camp programs for participants ages 4-11. Volunteers supporting in Skating & Bike programs act as caring adults, helping to provide hands-on learning support to participants and increase the amount of attention we can pay to each child, improving the quality of programs and building children’s connections to their community.
