“Lest We Forget” is a sidewalk mural along the McAllister Avenue Multi-Use Pathway (MUP), beside Veterans Park. The mural honours the service and sacrifice of Canada’s veterans.
The artwork is a lasting tribute located along one of the City’s most travelled active transportation routes, ensuring the message of remembrance reaches residents throughout the year. The mural’s location is significant as Veterans Park is home to the City’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony, and the mural extends that spirit of remembrance into a space residents pass through every day, not only once a year.
"This mural is a powerful, everyday reminder for everyone who walks, rolls, or cycles along this pathway of the courage and sacrifice of those who served our country. Its place right beside Veterans Park, where our community gathers every Remembrance Day, means that spirit of gratitude stays with us all year round,” said Mayor Brad West. “Port Coquitlam is proud to have a lasting tribute like this in such a well-used, well-loved public space."
The sidewalk mural features a bold, graphic design developed by the City and produced in partnership with the installation team, Drip & Roll, as part of the City’s ongoing public art program. The idea for the mural was originally brought forward to Council by Joseph Domingo, a local cadet. The City and the Legion wish to recognize his leadership in helping to make the project a reality.
