Port Coquitlam animal shelter services are provided by Coquitlam Animal Shelter, a municipally-operated no-kill shelter at 500 Mariner Way that currently serves Coquitlam and Port Moody.
The City’s contract with Coquitlam Animal Shelter provides Port Coquitlam residents with longer visiting hours, a larger facility and trained staff at a location not far from the two cities’ shared border. The shelter has heated kennel floors, skylights, a dog playground, and outdoor and indoor cat play areas. It also operates a Pet Pantry that provides donated pet food and supplies to owners who are struggling financially.
Each year, dozens of stray dogs, cats and even birds are picked up from local streets and provided safe shelter. Licenced dogs are usually reunited with their owners the same day.
Coquitlam Animal Shelter, is also an adoption agency for homeless dogs, cats and other pets. All pets placed for adoption are healthy, vaccinated, have an identifying tattoo or microchip, and are spayed or neutered. Please note: At this time dog viewing is not open to the public, but is available by approved application only.
These services are funded by the revenue from dog licences, which are required for all dogs in Port Coquitlam over six months old.
The City of Port Coquitlam thanks Countryside Kennels for its long service to the community. Countryside began providing Port Coquitlam’s shelter services in 2008, after the SPCA closed its former location on Pipeline Road in Coquitlam.
