BC Rivers Day

Every year, BC Rivers Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of September.

In celebration of Rivers Day 2024, our community gathered together for a Rain Garden Renewal event! This event was organized by the Coquitlam River Watershed Society, with support from the City of Port Coquitlam and the PoCo Community Foundation.

About Rivers Day

The first BC Rivers Day was founded by Mark Angelo in 1980 to celebrate our rivers, highlighting the many values and increasing public awareness and encouraging stewardship. In the year 2000, Port Coquitlam began celebrating our 3 rivers, Pitt River, Fraser River, Coquitlam River and our trails which run alongside the creeks, the forests and wildlife. It is now internationally recognized as World Rivers Day, to celebrate the many values of rivers around the world.
