Port Coquitlam Stands For Kindness On Feb. 28

News

Port Coquitlam will take a stand against bullying on Feb. 28 with activities and resources aimed at raising awareness and providing tools to address bullying and promote the importance of choosing kindness.

Activities Include:

  • PoCo Youth Leadership Group will be making friendship bracelets, creating kindness shirts to display and a photo booth on Wed., Feb. 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) lobby area outside the Youth Centre.
  • Port Coquitlam City Council will wear pink and proclaim Feb. 28 as Pink Shirt Stop Bullying Day at the Feb. 27 Council meeting.

Anti-bullying information and resources are posted online at portcoquitlam.ca/kindness.

This is the City's 14th year in taking part in the national anti-bullying movement that started in 2007 after students in Nova Scotia rallied around a boy who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt.

Pink Shirt Day falls on the last Wednesday of February every year, helping to create a more kind, inclusive world by raising awareness and funds for anti-bullying initiatives.

Local youth, adults and children are encouraged to wear something pink on Feb. 28 to raise awareness about bullying, which occurs in schools, workplaces, homes and on the internet.
