2025 Utility Bills Arriving – Payment Due March 31

News

Port Coquitlam property owners have begun receiving their 2025 utility bills, with payment due March 31. This year’s bill reflects unavoidable increases due to significant cost overruns at Metro Vancouver.

Metro Vancouver is the regional entity responsible for water and sewer infrastructure. The City is billed for its share of these regional services, which are then reflected in residential utility fees. This year, the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant, a regional infrastructure investment of $3.86 billion, is a primary driver of the increased fees.

The utility bill covers essential water and sewer services, with a significant portion of the costs, over which the City has no control, dictated by Metro Vancouver rates. These are flat annual fees based on the services provided to each property. Metro Vancouver charges make up 80 per cent of the water levy increase ($35.24, or 7.18 per cent) and 99 per cent of the sewer levy increase ($122.61, or 30.98 per cent). Much of the sewer levy increase ($84 from each household) is directly attributed to the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant cost overruns, which are impacting the entire region.

Property owners who have not received their bills by mid-March should contact the Tax Office. Late payments will incur a 5% penalty, with an additional 5% added after June 2. Avoid these extra charges by paying on time.
