Mark your calendar for Tuesday, July 1, when Port Coquitlam celebrates a picnic in the park for Canada Day with free family activities, local culture, live entertainment and more.
The day kicks off with a fishing derby at Lions Park from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. The fishing derby is free for kids under 10 years of age. Registration is not required.
Head to the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) from 9:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. for more activities.
- Canada Day Breakfast at Mabbett Hall: Get two mini pancakes, two sausages, and a juice box or coffee for just $7.00
- Free drop-in basketball in the Gymnasium
- Free drop-in lacrosse in Arena 1. Helmets and sticks are required.
Bring your family and friends, grab your beach chairs and blankets and enjoy all the festivities at Castle Park on Tuesday July 1 from 1:00 – 10:00 p.m. with headliners Aaron Pritchett and Trooper.
The free all-day event includes live music, family-friendly entertainment, beverage garden, mouth-watering eats from local food trucks, market vendors and more.
There will be a variety of marketplace and food vendors on-site, and of course a spectacular fireworks display closing out the evening at dusk.
Road Closures and Parking
The following traffic/safety control measures will be put into place Tuesday July 1:
- Mary Hill pedestrian overpass and Castle Park trails: Closed at 8:00 p.m.
- Citadel Drive from Confederation Drive to Castle Crescent: No parking 6:00 a.m. – midnight.
- Vehicles must be moved from the above locations by 6:00 a.m. to avoid being towed.
- Citadel Drive from Pitt River Road to Castle Crescent: Local access for residents only after 6:00 p.m.
Street closures from 6:00 pm – midnight (local access for residents only)
- Colonial Drive from Citadel Drive to Moody Court
- Nova Scotia Avenue (both entrances) at Citadel Drive
- Castle Crescent (both entrances) at Citadel Drive
Parking is available at the schools in the area. A map is available online at portcoquitlam.ca/canadaday.
Local residents affected by these road closures to access their homes will have access and may be required to show their BC driver’s license to officials at the checkpoints. Detours are in place and residents should watch for signage and traffic control personnel.
Getting there: Transit and Shuttle Services
TransLink
On July 1 holiday fares will be in effect and customers will only need a 1-Zone fare to travel across the transit network on Canada Day. TransLink services will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. Please note that West Coast Express will not operate on Canada Day. Please visit translink.ca to plan your route to Castle Park in Port Coquitlam.
Free Shuttle Service
Event-goers are encouraged to take transit, walk, cycle or enjoy free round-trip shuttle services to and from various locations throughout Port Coquitlam. Shuttles will run approximately every 30 minutes from 1:00 p.m.– 12:00 a.m. (times may be delayed due to traffic) from the locations listed below, dropping off event-goers at Castle Park. A wheelchair accessible bus will be available. Strollers are allowed on the shuttle busses and should be folded and placed in the luggage area of the bus.
