Mark your calendar for July 1, when Port Coquitlam celebrates a picnic in the park for Canada Day with free family activities, local culture, live entertainment and more.
The day kicks off with a fishing derby at Lions Park from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. The fishing derby is free for kids under 10 years of age. Registration is not required. Also in the morning, head to the Port Coquitlam Community Centre for a pancake breakfast hosted by the Lions Club from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. (two mini pancakes, two sausages and a juice box or coffee for $7). Free drop-in basketball and lacrosse will also be available at the Community Centre from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Participants are asked to bring their own basketball.
Bring your family and friends, grab your beach chairs and blankets and enjoy all the festivities at Castle Park on Wed. July 1 from 1:00 p.m. to dusk with headliners Owen Riegling and April Wine.
The free all-day event includes live music, family-friendly entertainment, beverage garden, mouth-watering eats from local food trucks, market vendors and more.
There will be a variety of marketplace and food truck vendors on-site, and of course a spectacular fireworks display closing out the evening at dusk.
