Celebrate Canada Day On July 1st In Port Coquitlam

Celebrate Canada Day in Port Coquitlam with an afternoon filled with live music and performances, featuring event headliners April Wine and Owen Riegling. 

The festivities at Castle Park will include a variety of activities and entertainment, including main stage performances, family-friendly fun, and a spectacular fireworks show at dusk, and a highlight this year, the spectacular water fountain shows at Leigh Square featuring music from beloved Canadian artists, playing at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. 

This free, all-day event offers live music, family entertainment, a beverage garden, delicious offerings from local food trucks and market vendors, and much more. Bring your family and friends, grab your beach chairs and blankets, and join us at Castle Park for a day of celebration. Don't forget water bottles and sun protection. 

Schedule of Events 

Lions Park 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. 

  • Free fishing derby with prizes for children age 10 and under (no registration required). 

Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. 

  • Canada Day Breakfast brought to you by the Lions Club – Mabbett Hall – Two mini pancakes, two sausages and a juice box or coffee for $7.00. 

  • Free drop-in basketball – Gymnasium 

  • Free drop-in lacrosse – Arena 1 

Please note: All vehicles must vacate the PCCC underground parkade by 1:00 p.m. as the parkade will close promptly at that time.

Transit and Shuttle Services 

TransLink 

On July 1, holiday fares will be in effect and customers will only need a 1-Zone fare to travel across the transit network on Canada Day. TransLink services will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. Please note that West Coast Express will not operate on Canada Day. Please visit translink.ca to plan your route to Castle Park in Port Coquitlam. 

Free Shuttle Service 

Event-goers are encouraged to take transit, walk, cycle, or enjoy free round-trip shuttle services to and from various locations throughout Port Coquitlam. Shuttles will run approximately every 30 minutes from 1:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (times may be delayed due to traffic) from the locations listed below, dropping off event-goers at Castle Park. A wheelchair accessible bus will be available. Strollers are allowed on the shuttle buses and should be folded and placed in the luggage area of the bus.

Accessible Canada Day Event 

Port Coquitlam is dedicated to creating accessible experiences for people of all ages and abilities. On Canada Day this includes: 

  • Accessible parking and shuttle options 

  • American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter provided for speeches 

  • A Sensory Friendly space hosted by the Canuck Autism Network (CAN) 

  • Misting tent for cooling off 

  • Accessible stage-viewing areas 

  • An accessible viewing area for fireworks

Road Closures and Parking 

The following traffic and safety control measures will be put into place on Canada Day, July 1: 

  • Both sides of Citadel Drive from Confederation Drive to Castle Crescent: No parking 6:00 a.m. – midnight. 

  • Vehicles must be moved from the above locations by 6:00 a.m. to avoid being towed. 

  • Castle Crescent (both entrances) at Citadel Drive: Closed 9:00 a.m. – midnight (local residents will be permitted access). 

  • Citadel Drive from Pitt River Road to Castle Crescent: Local access for residents only after 6:00 p.m. RCMP will be checking ID. 

  • Citadel Drive from Palisade Crescent to Castle Crescent: Local access for residents only after 6:00 p.m. RCMP will be checking ID. 

Street closures from 6:00 p.m. – midnight (local access for residents only): 

  • Colonial Drive at Citadel Drive 

  • Castle Crescent and Nova Scotia Avenue 

  • Castle Crescent (both entrances) at Citadel Drive (local residents will be permitted access) 

  • Partial lane closure of Citadel Drive from Pitt River Road to Palisade Crescent to create a pedestrian lane 

Parking is available at schools in the area. A map is available online at portcoquitlam.ca/canadaday

Local residents affected by these road closures will have access and may be required to show their BC driver's licence to officials at checkpoints. Detours are in place and residents should watch for signage and traffic control personnel.
